AI: Vaccination prevents the pandemic (+vertaling)

The eradication of Avian Influenza in 2003 in the Netherlands killed 13 million poultry and other birds. Some 80 people were infected. One (veterinarian) died. Lessons, learned in Holland, made it clear that stamping out endangers public health. So, to preventa pandemic, all commercial poultry should be vaccinated rather than buying Tamiflu. We request the Ministers of the European Union,together in Luxemburg on October 18th, to take their responsibility by making preventive vaccination possible. It is the only way to protect public health.

De uitroeiing van Vogelgriep in 2003 in Nederland doodde 13 miljoen stuks pluimvee en andere vogels. Tachtig mensen waren besmet, één (dierenarts) stierf. Uit deze periode moet geleerd worden dat uitroeiing de volksgezondheid in gevaar brengt. Daarom zou al het commercieel gevogelte moeten worden ingeënt. Wij verzoeken de Ministers van de Europese Unie, samen in Luxemburg op 18 Oktober, om hun verantwoordelijkheid te nemen door preventieve inenting mogelijk te maken. Het is de enige manier om volksgezondheid te beschermen.
